Friday I walked, or maybe I should say ate, my way through two towns: Footscray and Yarrasville. There's so much culture and diversity there compared to the city. They had authentic asian and african neighborhoods which were interesting to see. More importantly though, they had authentic FOOD. Australia has so many immigrants so chinese food is made by chinese people and african food is made by africans- unlike in the U.S. where everything is essentially americanized and made by americans. I had pineapple cake from the asian area, something called Katenya from the african area, and some sort of chocolate cake from the cafe Seddon Deadly Sins that looked too delicious to stop and take a picture of (I have an empty bag with a cool logo though if anyone wants to see that).
After that we made our way back to the city to watch the winter fireworks at the docklands in Melbourne. Nothing too exciting. I had sushi for dinner and gelato for dessert after we watched the show. In Australia they sell sushi by what looks like the half roll and you get soy sauce in these cute little plastic fish shaped squeezy bottles then you just eat the sushi like a burrito. Savage.
Oh, and my gelato was AH-MAY-ZING. It was made using liquid nitrogen and had chocolate hazelnut flavored gelato with hazelnuts and rice krispies on top, all dipped in chocolate and then topped off with an extra syringe of chocolate- you can never have too much! Also, they seem to have some obsession with syringes here. They have them in cocktails, doughnuts, my ice cream..and they have little boxes hanging on the walls in the bathrooms to throw away used syringes but I dont know what those are for.

I'm not one for sports but on Saturday we went to an AFL game which is just Aussie rules football. When in Australia do as the Australians do I guess. It's not like American football at all. It was actually pretty entertaining. It just seemed like I was watching a bunch of boys chasing after a ball and throwing each other to the ground for it.
After that we just got lost in the city for a bit and visited the state library and melbourne central mall, both of which are huge. Since it was Alex's birthday this week we went to Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar for dessert. It was really just an excuse though, we would have gone anyway. Everything we did this week was "for Alex's birthday" but that's besides the point haha. The dessert was really good but it I actually couldn't finish it for once. I don't know whats wrong with me :(. Yolanda dared Chris to eat everything that was left in 15 minutes without puking for a free plane ticket to Fiji and he actually took her on. Rookie mistake. At 6 minutes and 23 seconds left he admitted defeat. You made a good attempt though, Chris. Maybe next time.
Funny story about Alex: We were doing a scavenger hunt in the city with our residence hall where you could do different challenges in different places around the city for points and everything had to be on video for proof. One of the challenges was to do the fake yawn and put your arm around a stranger and another was to get someones phone number. Well. Brilliant Alex decided to combine these two and went for a young adult on the subway. She wasn't very keen on it and since we were all wearing our hall shirts she knew we were from Monash. She decided to call up the school and report the incident as well as the fact that she didn't consent to being video taped. Now Alex is being reprimanded for harassment. Nothing serious though since they do the scavenger hunt every year and everyone finds this pretty funny, he just got unlucky with his pick.
